Game reports from a busy last weekend of action before the Holls
U14 Boys North West League Division 1
Donegal Town BC 44
Sligo All Stars 36
DTBC U14s boys got their first win of the season after winning a enthralling game of basketball against SAS in the Abbey gym. The first quarter was tight as both teams looked to get on top. both defenses were playing well but two quick baskets at end of quarter saw SAS led 10 - 7. 2nd quarter DTBC looked to be getting the upper hand. Their defense was excellent and with Ben McNeely and Conor Gillespie getting a couple of good baskets each DTBC led at half time 17 - 15. The 2nd half was full of excitement as both teams went looking for the win. 3rd quarter was end to end but SAS took more of their chances and led by four going into last quarter but DTBC were not to be denied their first win as they played their best basketball led by Daniel Quinn who scored some great baskets and with the defense shutting out SAS, DTBC won by 8pts to claim a good win.
All the boys played very well with Conor Gillespie having his best game but MVP was Daniel Quinn who was immense all game.

U14 Boys North West League Division 2
Mulroy Hoops 46
Donegal Town BC 14
DTBC U14s boys headed to Milford to play runaway leaders Mulroy Hoops and even though they lost, they played some good basketball but they were not able to score as well as the Hoops did. The Hoops are by far the strongest team in Division 2 and it showed as they led by half time 26 - 2. DTBC were playing well but couldn't score. 2nd half DTBC played even better by getting their defense going and with Cathan McCallig starting to find the basket, the boys started to pass it around and grew in confidence. The Hoops still were the better team but they sure worked for it. The game ended with the score 46 -14 and the lads were buzzing after. All played well with some great performances but MVP was Daniel Cannon who was excellent all game.
TEAM.Bobby Hamilton, Cathan McCallig 7, Daniel Cannon 3, Hugh McGettigan, John Anderson, Johnathon O Driscoll 2, Matthew McNamee, Seamus og Caldwell, Shayne Martin, Shea Byrne 2.
Coach Darragh Griffin.
A big thanks to Darragh Griffin for taking his first game as coach.
Next game: Away to Blaze January 14th 4pm tip off.
it was a busy weekend for the u14 girls..owing to xmas shopping trips, parties, and other commitments we manage to gather 10 players on each day for our two games
on saturday we played sligo all stars in the gym at 3pm..final score 21-39 to all stars..saturdays team was made up of 4 eleven year olds and six older girls. This was a much improved performance on our previous game.and if we had taken our chances we should have been ahead after first quarter.the younger girls got valuable experience in second quarter where all stars pulled away..all the girl battled hard in second half and they put it up to sligo .saturdays team..sophia maziri, katie gillespie, sarah donovan, amy carr, roisin gillespie, kayleigh boyle, ashling smith, holly roarty, emma sweeney, laura sweeney..
on sunday we travelled to take on mulroy hoops at 12.45 up in ray community centre..of all our games to date this is one we could have and should have won going down 28-18 in a tight exciting match..a little more composure under the basket and on the ball and the outcome could have been different. The girls are rebounding a lot better and are learning how to defend better..all round a good team performance..again sundays team was a mixture of old an young...sundays team..sophia maziri.katie gillespie.roisin gillespie, sarah donovan, emma meehan, ashling smith, shauna doherty, holly roarty, emma sweeney, laura sweeney.
I would like to thank anita, catherine and seosaimhin for helping with transport to mulroy.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome coach manus back to the club. His knowledge and experience has definitely rubbed off on these girls and the evidence is there to see each match we play.On both our away trips to date he has been approached or met up with people who he has coached over the years all over the county..as he tells the girls...we are on a journey and if they stick at it and listen to his coaching the will get there...
A quick note to thank all the ladies who have provided the female adult supervision at training each wednesday..

Ballyshannon 88ers 63 D.T.B.C. 44
Our young u19 team travelled to Ballyshannon last Wednesday and put in a great performance despite the loss. Our squad had just 3 players who aren't u16 which highlights the big drop off off players at his age. Disappointingly we have lost at least 6 players who would add greatly to this team since last season which is a trend that is matched most seasons as Girls walk away too easily from the sport and its something hopefully we as a club can change.
As our Girls took to the court against a quality home side Nadine Mc Geoghan and captain Andrea Furey got our first couple of scores to settle the girls and despite a good 88ers start finished the quarter 22-14 down. With Coach Sinclair unavailable it was great to see Rosa Devaney step up from Assistant coach to take the girls for the first time and get so much outa the team. The next 2 quarters would see our girls stay with the home side as the matched them 14 each in the 2nd and 8 each in the third to give themselves a chance in the game.
But the more experienced home side pulled away with a strong last quarter to take the win. These games will stand to our girls and with most having 3 and 4 years at this level hopefully we can hold onto this great batch of players long into the future.
Team; Nadine mcGeoghan 10, Catherine Campbell 2, Courtney Harron 4, Sophie Carr 18, Aoibhe Timoney, Orla Carbery 4, Chelcie Bennett 2, Elizabeth Mackle, Andrea Furey 4, Lucy Clinton, Aoife Mackle. Coach Rosa Devaney, Ass Coach Rosemary Carr
U19 Girls North West League
D.T.B.C. 47 Ballyshannon 88ers 51
We hosted the 88ers on Saturday and gave it a fantastic effort to try and win but came up just short in the end.
Disappointingly we could only kit our 7 players and Natasha Prendiville togged out to help out the girls in case of injuries or foul trouble.
We can be very happy with the girls that are showing up regularly as they showed last Saturday they can really play ball. All the quarters were very close as the 88ers took the first 11-9 and the second quarter 16-13 for a 26-22 halftime lead for the visitors. Again a 13-9 quarter win for the 88ers saw them take an 8 point lead but our girls threw everything at them and won the last quarter 16-11 but couldn’t reign in the 4 point lead. Our girls finished the strongest despite no rests for Sophie (briefly in the 4th), Orla and Meabh. Courtney Harron gave us real hope of a win when she scored 3 great baskets on the bounce and brought us to 2 points but to their credit the 88ers gained control and saw out the game. Aoibhe Timoney is showing real promise along with the returning Anna Campbell. We still have Blaze to play home and away which decides who we play in the semiFinals on January 14th. Sophie Carr was in fine form and proved difficult to stop but MVP was Orla Carbery who is really improving as a center which really helps the team as a whole.
Team; Coutney Harron 6, Anna Campbell, Orla Carbery 6, Sophie Carr 18, Meabh Dorrian 3, Andrea Furey © 4, Aoibhe Timoney 7, Natasha Prendiville. Coach Kevin Sinclair
