Our U16 boys faced off against Blaze (B) for their second game of the day on Saturday which ended up in another one-sided affair but this time it was in Donegal Town's favour.

DTBC 25 - Blaze BC 30
DTBC U14 boys hosted Blaze at the Abbey gym, and once again just came up short in a very tight but entertaining game. It was another low scoring game with both defenses on top. DTBC edged the first quarter 5- 4 with Niall Prendiville scoring 3 free shots and Barry Burke with a good lay up. 2nd quarter was as tight with DTBC edging it as well and they led 11-8 at half time. Daniel Quinn scoring all 6pts for DTBC. Blaze in the 2nd half came out strong but DTBC were still playing well but missed chance after chance allowed Blaze to led after 3rd quarter 17-16, It was all to play for in last quarter. Blaze got 2 baskets and looked to pull away but DTBC fought back but again missed several baskets and Blaze didn't and done enough in the end to win by 5. DTBC felt it was another game that got away and they must improve their scoring if they are to turn these tight games in their favor. MVP was Niall Prendiville who battled all game long.

DTBC 36 - Blaze BC 29
DTBC U14 boys got their second win in a row with another great team performance at home against Blaze. It was a great game of basketball between two sides who wanted to play exciting basketball. 1st quarter set the trend as both teams went at it from the off. DTBC with Mikey Duke and Conor Gallagher getting early baskets got off to a great start but Blaze battled back but once again Mikey Duke scored twice more to leave score 16-10 in DTBC favor. 2nd quarter was tighter as both defenses started to play well as both teams shared the quarter 6 each to leave half time score 22-16. Blaze battled back in the 3rd with some great scores and led going into the last 26-27. Pressure was on DTBC, but they responded with some outstanding play scoring some great baskets and keeping Blaze to just one baskets as DTBC ran out winners 36-27. DTBC 23 - Blaze 57
We had 12 girls available for saturdays match against a well drilled blaze team. Blaze have 2 x 1 1/2 hours training sessions a week and if they dont have a match at weekend they train for another 1 1/2 hours where as we only train for the one hour in the week and the difference showed. However a few parents from blaze commented how much improved our girls were from our away match against them in november. This is a great bunch of girls to work with and are eager to learn. The match itself was tight in the first and fourth quarters but got away from us in the second and third quarters. We had alot of travelling violations in the game and we need to improve our rebounding and have a bit more composure under the basket. We will only improve by training and playing matches. Kilcar have invited us down for a friendly on friday evening at 7.00pm and they will come up and play us at a future date. Keep up the hard work because it is paying off

DTBC 33 - Ballyshannon 88ers 11
DTBC U12 boys made it 5 wins from 6 with another convincing performance against Ballyshannon 88ers at home. DTBC from the start played at a great tempo with their offence working well but it was their defense that impressed the most. they just did not let Ballyshannon get any foothold in the game. Niall Feeney, Matthew McInern and Eoghan McPartland all contributed to a healthy 13-4 half time led. The 2nd half was as impressive as DTBC showed why they are top of the league as they keep the score ticking over while still keeping their defense up. They turned the ball over numerous times and ended up winning 33-11. The lads are putting in great effort at training and are showing it on the court. MVP was Nikodom Dominik who was brilliant.

DTBC 14 - Ballyshannon 88ers BC 16
DTBC U12s Boys lost narrowly to Ballyshannon 88ers in a very close but tough game. Both teams put in great effort as these young lads battled it out on the court. It was tight from start to finish as DTBC led most of the game but were to fall short as Ballyshannon had a great last quarter winning it by 6pts and claiming a hard fought win. Christian Ward and Ryan Gallagher scored some nice baskets plus Joseph Jordan and Dylan McGrory played well in defense. Like the Division 1 team these lads are putting in a great effort and were just unlucky on the day. MVP was Cormac Carr.

Blaze 67 - DTBC 45
Our U16 Girls headed through the cold Gap to the Mercy in Letterkenny to play Blaze in a refixed league game. This was a hard evening as our girls really struggled to get into the game from the start and got hammered in the first quarter 21-9 with our scores coming from Nadine Mc Geoghan 2pts, Captain Orla Carbery 2pts, and a nice end line play converted by Lucy Clinton with a 3 pointer from Sophie Carr finishing off the quarter. We could point to harsh refereeing but the truth is our girls just weren't at it and with Captain Orla Carbery and scorer in chief Sophie Carr on 4 fouls very early it was up to the rest of the squad to find the scores. Blaze defence ensured that baskets were very hard to come by but DTBC did improve defensively and lost the quarter 13-11 but at least started to get a foothold in the game. Only Sophic came close to playing up to her usual standard along with the ever improving Orla Mc Gonagle in defence but again Blaze pulled away with an 18-10 quarter win. The last was an even affair with DTBC finally showing some confidence and starting to match the home team for a 15 each final quarter with Sophie and Orla fouled out at that stage. Sophie Carr hit 30 points of the teams 45 but a very disappointing night for our girls.

DTBC 67 - Blaze 36
Our Girls had the chance to put things right fairly quickly after the away defeat to Blaze with the same team coming to the Abbey VS venue on saturday. As coach i wasn't feeling like our girls were up for it and was shocked and pleasantly surprised when i walked into the gym to see nearly a full panel going through their warm up with Rosa and looking like a team that meant business. I just wasn't expecting this to tell you the truth and was fantastic to see. My faith in the girls restored they took to the court with little fear they took the game to Blaze winning the first 23-9 with a fantastic display in both offense and defence. Again they dominated the second with a 19-5 scoreline but it was the threat around the basket from all over the court that was most pleasing as Aoibhe Timoney, Orla Carbery and the fantastic Courtney Harron took the scoring burden off Sophie to add a far better style of team basketball which was lacking before. Blaze did rally with some great shooting from Mc Geever to win the third 17-12 but a late rally and 13-5 last quarter to the home side saw them home with a satisfying win and a massive turnaround from the thursday before. Well done to all the girls who dug deep and didn’t shy away from what was tough fixture. A real happy coach saw great displays as usual from Sophie Carr but everyone contributed to the win. Aoibhe Timoney, Catherine Campbell and Orla Carbery also had big games but MVP this week goes to Courtney Harron who worked so hard and also gave her team a great outlet which she started to finish really well.
