U12 Girls Division 1
DTBC 17 Blaze 18
Our u12 girls welcomed BLaze last weekend in what turned out to be a great game going down to the last seconds to decide the winner. We have really struggled getting numbers for most our girls teams this last few seasons while the boys have nearly all maxed out numbers wise. But this group of girls have been working very hard under coaches Garry and Clementine and are showing signs of improvement and were so unlucky not to get the win. Nerves are always a big factor but just getting games is the big one and the more games the better they will get and after just their 2nd game showed some great talent and great effort throughout the team. As it turned out Blaze only had 9 players which means a win for our team with Blaze able to keep a strong team on court throughout while our girls all got games. Blaze did pull away towards the end but DTBC staged a fantastic comeback backboned by the fantastic MVP Emily Mcloone and great D from Aoibh Ward. Nice baskets by the impressive Laoise Hegarty and a lovely outside shot by Millie Ramsey gave our girls a great chance but the last basket just wouldn’t drop to see Blaze hold on by a point. As stand in coach for the day i was really impressed with the girls. Sadly we had a bad injury to one of the teams leading players Grace Meehan who fractured her arm after a fall. From all at DTBC we would like to wish Grace a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on court with her team asap.

NB, the support for kids at this age is fantastic but we had 2 superb games against 88ers recently at u18 and u16 girls and both times 88ers had more support than us despite it being a home game for us with hardly anyone showing any support for the girls.. Why parents and Friends don't get behind their kids at these vital age groups is beyond me and it's no wonder it's a nightmare to keep girls in sport at these ages. Real pity and embarassing to see our neighbouring clubs out support us at home....
DTBC 12 v Kilcar 37
The boys played their game of the season on Saturday past against a strong and well drilled Kilcar team in the Abbey gym.
From the start Kilcar showed great composure under the boards, taking some impressive lay ups and playing on the fast break to great effect with a leading performance from Troy Mc Devitt scoring 18 points in total.
It took the lads time to settle into the game but in the second half they actually matched Kilcar score for score showing great determination and a never say die attitude. Leon Mc Ginty was a huge loss having to retire early through injury but led by Alex, Alan and Rory the lads started to play with pace and began to find space through the well marshalled Kilcar defence. Harry Mc Kinney came to the fore abably assisted by Gary Taylor who gave his best ever performance in a DTBC jersey.
This was a tough test and lesson learned for the lads but will stand well to this young and ever improving side.
