Ballyshannon 88ers 52 DTBC 55
Our u19 Women’s team were in action away to 88ers Sunday morning in what turned into another fantastic game between these neighbouring clubs. The last encounter was a 57-54 win for DTBC and this game was very similar with the away team taking a another 3 point win. Both sides had dominant quarters as the away side got off to a great start and took the first 18-8 while the third quarter was all the 88ers winning it 22-12 both 10 point winning quarters. Our girls were shy a few players with only 4 u18s available but with great performances form u16 players Catherine Campbell, Sarah Donovan and Orla Mc Gonagle they were always in with a chance to take the Win. 32-19 halftime lead for DTBC was getting smaller as the game went on and 88ers took a deserved lead mid way through the last quarter and looked like they would hold on. But our girls really dug deep and found a way past the great pressing from the home side with Sophie Carr finishing fantastically after some great passing moves involving Carbery, Furey, Mcgonagle and Donovan to put her away and boy did she finish scoring all the the away teams points in the last to take a fantastic win. Next up for our girls is a huge game at home Friday 8.30pm against Meteors of Dublin in the National u18 Shield and we are asking for all connected with this team and the club to come along and show your support and really make it a great home atmosphere for the travelling Dubs. Sophie Carr was again fantastic scoring a whopping 31 points while Orla Carbery was again instrumental in the win pulling down some fantastic rebounds and the battle inside with Mcglynn was a great watch but also being the key to unlocking the press when it mattered most. Furey, Campbell, Mcgonagle and Donovan all played their parts in a great game and great win for our girls.

DTBC u12 girls went to runaway leaders 88ers and they produced their best performance of the year. 88ers had beaten them well so seeing the girls go toe to toe with 88ers was a great credit to them. From the start DTBC showed their improvement with Emily Mcloon rebounding well and with Maya Lenehan and Millie Ramsey getting them on the scoreboard as DTBC girls slowly realised they were able to compete. 88ers led but DTBC keep coming back but a late burst at end of the half saw 88ers lead 13-8. DTBC started the second half on the front foot with some excellent defence from Cassie Meehan and Sarah Calhoun, then Laoise Hegarty and Laura Quinn started to get some great lays ups and with 10 min to go they took the lead with another Laura Quinn layup. 88ers started to press DTBC hard and we struggled to get up court but with 5min to go DTBC were only 1pt down. But victory was not to be theirs as 88ers with a great press turned over a few passes and got vital baskets to secure their 100% record. DTBC girls though can hold their heads high as they gave it everything and were rightly applauded off the court by the big visiting crowd. MVP Laura Quinn who was outstanding.

DTBC 66 GAP 9
Our under 16s had a good win against one of the newest clubs in the region GAP at the weekend. The game needs teams like GAP especially us here in south Donegal and despite coming up against a stronger home side they showed their great attitude as they never dropped their heads and played until the end. Bernard Gallagher was a fine player when Ardara had a mens team back in the basketball hayday and it's great to see lads like Bernard back helping get teams out again. GAP area has a rich tradition in basketball and it would be great to see more help for Bernie and co from more lads with basketball experience in the area and get the game going in what was a hotbed for basketball a few decades ago. As for the game our girls have a nice run going and are trying to close the gap between them and the leading clubs and are showing good signs of improvement. Co Captains Catherine Campbell and Orla Mc Gonagle led the team well with strong games from Katie Gillespie, Shauna Doherty, Ella Mc Kinney and Sarah Donovan. While Ava Maxwell, Roisin Gillespie and Emma Meehan were great out front and with the girls training hard the future looks bright for this group. MVP was Orla Mc Gonagle who is improving all the time.

DTBC got their second win in a row with a scrappy win away to 88ers. 88ers started the best with some good scores from Donagh Kelly and Dara Mcgloin and were playing nice basketball as DTBC struggled to get into the game . By half way through first half 88ers led 12 _ 2.. Slowly DTBC started to play their way back into the game. Defence got sorted and baskets started to roll in. Charlie Mcneely, Nikodem Dominik and Leon Mcginty all getting great baskets to leave half time score 12 each. DTBC defence were on top now and despite a few mistakes started to increase our lead with Thomas Healy getting a couple of good scores and Niko and Jon Darren finding their shooting range. With only 5 min to go DTBC led by 10. 88ers came with a late burst but time was against them and DTBC held out for the win. MVP. Thomas Healy who had a great game .
